• Independent Artist Program
The travel abroad workshops are designed for people who are interested in an in-depth studio art experience and can comfortably work in the countryside. The program is open to the intermediate and advanced art student capable of self-directed work as well as to the professional artist. Instruction is given in oil, acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media. A friend or spouse is welcome as a non-studio participant at a reduced fee. Non-studio participants may join in all program activities except studio work. In previous years we have stayed in a charming little town in the south of France, a grand 12th Century Chateau in Normandy, on Lake Como and in Lucca, an artistic center in Tuscany. Wonderful long-lasting friendships are made on these trips. Many of our students return year after year to enjoy this enriched learning experience.
Our lovely air-conditioned hotel is located inside the town of Mazan. Our studio is located a short distance from the hotel and is fully air-conditioned. The hotel offers an English-speaking concierge, 24-hour switchboard, mini-bar and cable television. The program offers instructional classes five days each week either in the mornings or afternoons. We work in our studio or take excursions to draw and paint from the surrounding landscape. During non-instructional time students are encouraged to work on their own in the studio until early evening. At the end of the program all artists are invited to participate in a group exhibition at the Brentwood Art Center Art Gallery.
Instructional classes, hotel, and two meals daily are included in the program fee. Airfare, personal items, one meal daily, beverages, outside dinner parties, ground transportation and optional excursions are not included.
